The tournament is now expanding to allow a greater number of teams to participate and raising the stakes to incentivize higher standards debating. Over 200 students are expected to compete at the tournament comprising of some of the best debaters from all over India. Extensive coverage of the event on social media will ensure that the potent ideas generated by the debaters will have an appropriate platform. An adjudication core consisting of some of the most reputed debaters and adjudicators has been constituted to organize consecutive rounds of debating.
The Debating Society, JGU was founded in 2010 to encourage and nurture ‘parliamentary debating’ at the O.P. Jindal University. The Society has, in it’s brief time of presence in the Indian Debating Circuit has achieved various laurels. Speakers have won Tournaments consistently along with a pool of Adjudicators who have been selected to judge Finals and Semi-Finals rounds across major tournaments in the country. Performances at domestic as well as international debates such as the WUDC 2014, INDC 2013, NLS Delhi Debates, NLSIU Debates, IIT Bombay Debates and Delhi University Debates has helped the Debating Society (DebSoc) become one of the fastest-growing in the Indian Circuits to carve a niche for itself in the world of parliamentary debating.
Parliamentary Debate is an academic debate event that entails comprehensive argumentation on a specific issue. Prestigious institutions around the world, such as Harvard, Yale, Oxford, Cambridge, Monash, Sydney, Dublin and many more compete at a global stage, debating a wide variety of important issues.
Schedule:
- Tournament to kick off with an extravagant Opening Ceremony and adjudication test.
- 5 preliminary rounds of debating to be followed by a break to quarter finals.
- Break Night Dinner to announce the breaking teams and adjudicators.
- Closing ceremony and prize distribution to follow the grand finals.
