Strategic Management of Private and Social Insurance in China

Shanghai, China | September 28, 2016

Sep 28, 2016

Foreign investors often question the value of making contributions to Chinese social insurance for their local and expatriate employees. Additionally, many wonder whether supplemental insurance is necessary in order to manage the risks to which their businesses are exposed in China.

In this morning session, we will shed light on the the question of how to optimize your company's insurance structure.

In the first half of the seminar, Chet Scheltema, Regional Director at Dezan Shira & Associates, and Thibaut Minot, International Business Advisory Associate at Dezan Shira & Associates, will discuss the “Five Insurances” and Housing Fund. They will provide an overview of social insurance schemes in China, regional disparities, and strategic implications for SME owners and managers. To illustrate the importance of careful planning, real-world examples and concrete calculations will be shown.

In the second part, Dennis Schoen, Business Development Manager of Abacare, will cover a broader scope by focusing on supplemental/private insurance and how it benefits employers as well as employees. Case studies will be shared to provide better insights into:

  • Private Medical Insurance: For who and how? Is it mandatory?
  • What defines a good health insurance provider?
  • Health insurance and financial risks: Explanation via the financial pyramid.
