From January 20, 2018 to January 27, 2018, a delegation of Québec governmental representatives, research groups, and businesses will visit the Chinese cities of Beijing, Hangzhou, and Shanghai to gather more information on investment opportunities in the Chinese market.
The visit is organized by the Québec government and will be led by Québec’s premier, Philippe Couillard. The businesses attending the visit come from various industries, including entertainment, multimedia, clean energy, food & beverage, consumer products, and other service-related business and technology fields.
On January 25th, Dezan Shira & Associates' International Business Advisory Senior Associate and head of French desk, Thibaut Minot, will participate in a series of one-on-one advisory consultation sessions in Shanghai with the visiting companies. Dezan Shira & Associates has been invited to participate in the event as a trusted professional services provider. During the sessions, Thibaut will meet with Québec delegates, sharing his knowledge about FDI in China and offering some preliminary consultation for the delegates’ concerns.
Thibaut will mainly cover the important strategic considerations that any investor looking to enter the China market should keep in mind, including common pitfalls when doing business in China, pre-investment considerations such as IP protection and China branding, and the legal entity options available for corporate establishment. Other topics such as how to structure investments into China from the finance and tax perspective, common corporate governance structures and internal control mechanisms, and profit repatriation strategies will also be discussed.
