China is now facing a declining and rapidly ageing population. Seniors are now significant players in the economy and their role will get even bigger and bigger! In 2019, 254 million people in China were aged 60 or above. By 2040, this number is expected to increase to 402 million, making up around 28% of the population. By 2050, the number of over 60s is expected to rise to more than 487 million, making up almost 35% of the Chinese population, accounting for over one-third of the total population.  

All in all, aggregate purchasing power and specific needs, older people in developed and emerging economies are seen as the fastest growing consumer group in China; their attitude to lifestyle and willingness to embrace new things – government supports with specific initiatives and overall conducive business environment is also positive to silver economy.

Since Victoria is a state that expertise in the sector of aged care and healthy ageing, this forum will be an opportunity to discuss the opportunities that China’s demographic shift will offer for Australian businesses in areas ranging from mobility, pharmaceuticals, medtech, R&D, Traditional Chinese medicine, health services, food, facility design and more.

Ines Liu: Ines Liu, the Senior Manager of International Business Advisory at Dezan Shira & Associates, provides strategic guidance on market entry, corporate structuring, and cross-border tax and legal considerations for foreign investors in Asia. She also leads the firm’s Australian client services desk, spearheading business development initiatives and serving as the primary contact for Australian clients and partners.

Hon Andrew Robb AO: Andre Robb is a former Minister for Trade, Investment and Tourism in Australia, where he negotiated FTAs with South Korea, Japan, and China, as well as the TPP and a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with Singapore. He is now Chairman of the Robb Group and serves on the boards of Kidman Cattle, CNSDose, Mind Medicine Australia, CLARA, and CDMA, while also advising Seafarms Ltd and various other businesses.
